Language Arts

At Lanai, teachers use the Benchmark Advance program to give our kids a rigorous reading and language arts experience. We pick the best parts of the program that suit our students, and for each unit, we have special booklets that cover reading fluency, comprehension, phonics, vocabulary, and writing skills.

 

We use Benchmark Advance for whole group lessons and also for smaller groups where we can focus on specific goals. In these groups, we utilize an online tool called i-Ready in grades 1-5. Benchmark Advance covers print concepts, phonological awareness, phonics, and fluency – all in a fun and meaningful way. The topics of the texts are cross curricular.
