Library: Wonder of Reading

Library Interior Library Outdoor Space
Lanai Road Elementary opened its two-room state-of-the-art Wonder of Reading Library with ceremonies on April 27, 2001. A grant from the Wonder of Reading organization matched $25,000 in funds previously raised by the Lanai Road PTA, Friends of Lanai, and community members.

In 2004, the school was awarded an additional $6,000 Wonder of Reading Grant to purchase more library books. In 2008, the school was awarded another grant to renovate the circulation desk and carpet. Additionally, we acquired a grant called “We the People” to further enrich our American Heritage library collection.

In 2023, we were the recipients of a $60,000 Library Refresh Initiative and added over 2,500 new additions to our collection.  Feel free to browse our Library Catalog using the button in the menu.  In addition, Each year our collection is sorted, organized and undergoes weeding as directed by the LAUSD Integrated Library and Textbook Support Services Department.

Each classroom rotates to the Library every week. Currently, we have a full-time Library Aide, partially funded by our booster group (FOLB), who assists the children in selecting and checking out titles from our extensive collection of books.

The Nest is our outside library garden cove, complete with comfortable sofas and chairs and picnic tables decorated for checkers and chess. This area is open Monday to Friday, before and after school, and during recess and lunch.

We have a Library Shelving Program which utilizes parent volunteers to come in and help shelf books every day of the week. If you are interested in assisting the librarian with shelving (30-90 minutes per week/month flexible), please contact the PTA Literacy & Library Committee.
