This last week of school was filled with celebrations! Wishing a super-big congratulations to our 5th graders on their Culmination! We know they’ll go onto great experiences in middle school. They are well-prepared because of all the dedicated teachers and support staff they’ve had at Lanai. This was also a week of awards - Morning Laps awards, Lexia awards and Perfect Attendance awards. Congratulations to all our students who earned awards this week and at other times too!

NEXT YEAR, SPIRIT WEAR IS STARTING AN AWESOME NEW VINTAGE SALES LINE, SELLING OLD STYLES FROM YEARS BEFORE!! These shirts are second-hand but are very cool styles from as far as 8-10 years ago! Many shirts will be original and "one of a kind". Shirts will start being sold next year but here's where your help comes in.....we're asking families to please donate back old shirts that no longer fit your children for resale! Items can be gently used and must not have holes or stains. Please bring in to the office.

Heather Bernstein, our Lanai Leader Editor, would love to tag team with another parent to help her with the Leader. The Lanai Leader publishes 5 issues per year and as role as Editor you reach out to committee chairs for articles and compile / layout the articles. Heather is currently prepping the final issue of the school year so this is an ideal time to shadow her and see what’s really involved.
Katie Elinoff, our Leader Advertising Manager, has kids that will be graduating out next school year. As the Advertising Manager, you reach out to previous advertisers and respond to inquiries that Lanai may get for the Leader. The new person will be able to shadow Katie for a year to learn the ropes.

PARENT PORTAL SIGN-UP - WHAT IS PARENT PORTAL AND WHY DO I NEED TO SIGN UP? The Parent Portal is your one-stop online system that connects parents/guardians to their student’s essential data. You will be able to view their attendance, assignments and grades and other important information. For families with 3rd to 5th graders, all state testing scores will be posted in your child’s online account as LAUSD has eliminated the mailing of results. To sign up for Parent Portal, visit https://achieve.lausd.net/Page/10470. Individual PIN numbers were sent home via mail by LAUSD to each legal parent/guardian. You can also contact Jody Chow in the Parent Center at firstname.lastname@example.org for access to your PIN and child’s student ID number (found on their report card). Feel free to drop into the Parent Center from 8:30 am to 12:00 pm daily for assistance in enrolling.
PERSIAN CULTURE 101 CLASSES AT LANAI - Sign-up for this class will be available on Monday, August 19 at 6pm. A Parent Square message with the sign-up link will be sent out at that time. Classes begin on Tuesday, August 27 with 2 time slots: 1:50 pm to 2:40 pm and 2:50 pm to 3:40 pm. Sign-ups are first-come, first-serve and there will be a waitlist in case the classes are full. This class is for 2nd - 5th graders only and families must fill out the Beyond The Bell application form and submit it to the office prior to the first day of Persian class. Classes are provided by the Farhang Foundation and there is no charge.
SUMMER PERSIAN CLASSES - Taught by LAUSD Farsi teacher, Maliheh Barazesh and offered by the Cyrus Language Academy. Classes will be held twice a week on Saturdays and Tuesdays at the Unitarian Universalist Church in Santa Monica. Please see the attached flyer for more details.
