So much going on this week! On Wednesday, our Volunteers were treated to a lovely breakfast hosted by our teachers and staff as a way to say thank you for all you do! Later, on Wednesday, our students got to hang out with their buddies at the final Buddy Lunch! It was a lovely spring day with games, bookmarks and popsicles. Top it off with butterflies soaring across the yard and it was a perfect buddy lunch! On Friday, we celebrated Cinco de Mayo with music, dance and yummy snacks - ole!
On another note, our TAs, staff and I met and are working to improve yard safety. We made changes which include students in grades 1 & 2 will “freeze” when the bell rings. Kindergarten students will also practice “freezing.” Then, selected students will gather the balls to be returned. No PAW tickets will be given for returning the balls. Students will only be allowed to play in their dedicated “areas.” This will curtail the after-bell rush to get to the ball box and in line. We hope these steps will improve safety on the yard.
Looking forward, remember we have movie night on Saturday; Laps for Lanai on the 21st and CPK Night on the 22nd this month. Lot’s of fun things going on!
Wishing you a nice weekend!

FROM THE SCHOOL OFFICE:
Parent Portal Sign-up - What is Parent Portal and why do I need to sign up? The Parent Portal is your one-stop online system that connects parents/guardians to their student’s essential data. You will be able to view their attendance, assignments and grades and other important information. For families with 3rd to 5th graders, all state testing scores will be posted in your child’s online account as LAUSD has eliminated the mailing of results. To sign up for Parent Portal, visit https://achieve.lausd.net/Page/10470. Individual PIN numbers were sent home via mail by LAUSD to each legal parent/guardian. You can also contact Jody Chow in the Parent Center at firstname.lastname@example.org for access to your PIN and child’s student ID number (found on their report card). Feel free to drop into the Parent Center from 8:30 am to 12:00 pm daily for assistance in enrolling.
Textbook Help Needed! - To help box up old textbooks, put them onto pallets and put the new textbooks on the shelf! Wear some comfy clothes and shoes! Monday, May 6 at 8:30. Stay as long as you like. Meet at the garden near the upper playground (outside the Science Lab or room 27). Please make a comment below if you are able to help.
2nd Grade PE Volunteers Needed - In an effort to help Coach PJ, we have created ONE sign-up sheet for all 2nd grade PE volunteers. Coach PJ realizes this time slot is very tough for some parents, but it is very difficult for him to properly instruct the grade when there aren't volunteers. https://www.signupgenius.com/go/70A0C48A9A62BAAFF2-pe2
You can add credit, pay your balance and see your child's cafeteria history online by going to: https://www2.mypaymentsplus.com/welcome. You will need your child's school ID (found on their report card or call the school office). Alternately, you can visit the cafeteria in person between the hours of 7:30 am and 2:30 pm to pay by cash. If you have any questions about your child's cafeteria account, please call Aida at (818) 788-4025.

Measure EE - What is it? On June 4, voters living in LAUSD boundaries will cast ballots on Measure EE, Quality Schools for All — a per-square-foot parcel tax on habitable structures. Passing Measure EE is a critical step in our 20 by 20 campaign to reach $20,000 in per-pupil funding by the year 2020. Homeowners would pay 16 cents per square foot on buildings (the taxable square footage listed on property tax bills) located on taxable parcels within Los Angeles Unified boundaries. The tax does not apply to land. Measure EE will not interfere with existing or new rent stabilization ordinances. Measure EE includes exemptions for property owners over 65 and certain disability recipients. Please see the attached flyer for FAQs.
By law, Measure EE funds are dedicated to:
Lowering class sizes
Attracting and retaining high quality teachers and school employees
Providing equitable school nursing, library and counseling services
Providing safe, secure, clean, well-maintained, supportive and welcoming schools
Supporting special needs, homeless, foster, & other underserved and disadvantaged students
