Lanai Weekly: April 23 - 27, 2018

Principal’s Message:

Dear Parents,

Full Steam Ahead!  That’s the theme our 5th graders had on Wednesday as they proudly wore their tee shirts for the panorama picture!  It’s hard to believe that this school year is nearing the end with only seven more weeks of school left.  We have a lot still to do however, before we reach the station!

We have SBAC (Smarter Balanced Assessment Consortium) testing for our 3-5th graders.  Each grade level is on their own testing schedule and parents are notified as to when their child’s class is testing.  Please make sure that during the testing window, your child gets a good night’s sleep, has eaten a complete breakfast, is on time and not pulled out for appointments, and is well.  If your child is ill, do not send him/her to school—we have a “make-up” schedule.

Our fourth graders are going on their overnight trip to Catalina on Wednesday - yes!  They are very excited and will have a wonderful time filled with learning and new experiences. Our fifth graders will be going on their amazing overnight trip in a few weeks to Pali Camp!

Our lower grades are just as busy!  This week TK and kindergarten went to Underwood Farms for a field trip to learn all about growing vegetables and farm life!  It was a full day of fun! In addition, on Thursday Mr. Lavenstein and Mrs. Royal’s buddy classes teamed together to share their writing and editing about the field trip - it was terrific seeing how helpful and encouraging the third graders are to their buddies!

I hope you had a chance to come to our music demonstrations on Thursday and Friday.  Ms. Rivera held her classes and parents could see how the music, dance, math, and English Language Arts are integrated into full body music/arts learning!  Our music program rocks at Lanai!

Finally, we celebrated Israeli Culture Day on Tuesday and it was amazing!  Students told facts about Israel, waved flags, danced to music, and sampled pita and hummus—yum!  It’s wonderful that we celebrate the many family heritages that we have at Lanai!

Full Steam Ahead…this train is moving, and everything aboard is great!

Enjoy the weekend,

Lisa Elan
