Lanai Weekly: November 12 - 16, 2018

Principal’s Message:

Dear Parents,

This week our students were surrounded by examples of what it means to be a citizen and/or resident of our country.  On Tuesday, Lanai’s auditorium was a polling location whereby our citizens exercised our most precious right - the right to cast votes.  The lines waxed and waned throughout the day, but it was a great opportunity for our students to see moms, dads, grandparents, and members from our community voting for what they feel is best.

Today our students participated in our second Veterans Day assembly.  We honored 14 veterans from the Lanai community - sons, dads, grandfathers, great-grandfathers, and staff members.  They came from all branches of the military and served during different times - the Korean War, Vietnam…overseas and stateside.  We listened as they told us how proud they were to serve our country. We heard inspiring words from our plant manager’s son Marc Anthony Paz, who is currently serving.  We celebrated when our own T.A., Isiah’s name was called. We sang, we listened, wrote notes, created artwork, collected donations and shed a few tears. I know our students are so fortunate to participate in events such as this; to be able to say thank you to the men and women who have served our country.

While you are enjoying the Veterans Day weekend, please take a few minutes to talk to your child about the sacrifices our Veterans have made so that we can have freedom.  And if you know someone who has served; or is serving in the military, police force, fire department, medical care or any other service unit, please thank them for their dedication in helping us all.

Wishing you a weekend filled with peace,

Lisa Elan
