Lanai Weekly: June 5 - 9, 2017

Principal's Message

Dear Families,

One more week to go and Lanai is still running in Fast Forward!  We had a special visitor at Lanai on Tuesday.  The author of “If You Give a Mouse a Cookie”, Laura Numeroff, came by and shared her newest book about service dogs called “Raising a Hero”, to our Kindergartners.  She also told students about the many important jobs that service dogs perform, as well as how to identify a service animal, and when it’s appropriate to approach them.   In addition, Ms. Numeroff explained her writing process to the children and told them that though picture books have fewer pages; it still takes a long time to have a story completed and published.

A few things to remember for the last week of school:  Check the Lost and Found for missing sweaters, jackets, lunchboxes, etc.; make sure you have completed any registration forms necessary for 2017/18 enrollment; update your Parent Square contact information; and finally pick up some good summer books for you and your children to enjoy.  Because “….if you give a child a book, he/she’s probably going to want to read it with you. And when you share stories together, you’ll probably get to talking about lots of stuff.  Then you’ll remember that a glass of milk and cookies goes well with spending time together.  And chances are, if you’re spending time together, you’ll probably want to read a good book.”

Enjoy your weekend!

Lisa Elan
