Lanai Weekly: December 12, 2016

Principal’s Message

Dear Families,

We are in the final countdown to Winter break and our students have been very busy preparing for the Holiday Concert!  The music and songs are sure to warm your heart as we all prepare for the festivities of the holidays.  There is so much going on in our classrooms too!  Our Kindergartners are finishing up their transportation unit and were very excited about writing on their experiences using different modes of transportation!  If you’re a first grade parent, check your pockets for coins to review with your child—they are learning about money and counting by 5’s with nickels!  If you ventured into second grade, you’d surely feel the winter chill in the classrooms through art and poetry.  Do you remember the commutative, associative, and identity properties?  If not, ask your third grader to explain it. Some even used their Chromebooks to verify the definitions!   Have you read the book, Lunch Money?  I saw some third graders acting out a scene from the book—very cute!  Fourth graders were totally engaged using their Chrome-books and the website “Zearn” to work on area models in multiplication and division.  And finally, you may have noticed that some 5th grade explorers, decked-out in full period costume, have arrived at Lanai and are sharing their exploration stories!  Land-ho!

As a reminder parents, please remember that the Youth Services (Y.S.) After-School program is for students in grades second through fifth.  In order for your child to participate, you must fill out an application in the office.  Each afternoon, Coach Wendy takes attendance and determines which children are remaining on the yard, after school.  This is very important to for her to know in case of an emergency.  She takes role again at 5:00 p.m. to determine who is still on campus.  If you need to have your second through fifth grader remain on campus after school and he/she is not in Seeds, please be sure the Y. S. paper work is on file, in the office.

Looking forward to seeing you at the Holiday Concert!
