Lanai Weekly: December 5, 2016

Principal’s Message

Dear Families,

This has been such a busy week with great things happening at Lanai!  It started off with a very generous purchase from FOLB (Friends of Lanai Booster) of 158 Chromebooks provided one-to-one for each of our 4th and 5th graders to use in all facets of their school work.  You must know that in addition to raising the funds and purchasing the Chromebooks, a team of “tech-savvy” FOLB board members spent several days reprogramming the Chromebooks because the technology didn’t come to us with the appropriate settings.   The other computers are being placed in our K-3 classrooms so that each class will have six computers for students. Thank you FOLB for your hard work and dedication to all our children!

Our students were just as industrious this week!  Our musical theater students have been rehearsing for their two performances—one Friday night and the other on Saturday afternoon.  We know it is sure to be enjoyed by all!  Team Lanai Cares has been collecting desserts and gift cards to share and participate in activities with families at a shelter on Saturday.  All our students shared in our “Buddy Day” on Wednesday and had lunch, ate candy canes and played on the yard with their buddies!  On Thursday, our second graders got to meet some very special superheroes—firefighters!  Along with meeting them, our students were treated to a special presentation demonstrating the equipment on their fire truck—so much fun!    Lanai’s Student Council introduced two special Buddy benches that are strategically placed on the upper and lower playgrounds for a student to sit on when they feel that they need a buddy.  These benches are a gift from last year’s Student Council. Finally, on Friday, we celebrated the work, effort, and citizenship of some of our wonderful students at the Principal’s Awards and Lunch with the Principal!   This has truly been a full week—everything exceptional—in other words: a normal week at Lanai!
