Lanai Weekly: May 18, 2015

Principal’s Message:

Dear Parents and Students:

In honor of Teacher/Staff Appreciation Week, we want to encourage everyone to take a moment and thank their teachers.  Think of that teacher from elementary school who was always willing to give you extra support or that teacher from junior high or high school year who would give you lots of helpful feedback on essays and classwork.  I will always remember Mrs. Humble in 1st grade as she read stories to our class and helped us learn to read.  Also, Mr. Murphy in 6th grade was demanding with high expectations but balanced that with a caring and supportive attitude.  He is one of the main reasons I became a teacher and principal.

Teachers really do make a lifetime of difference!  Help us recognize our awesome teachers and staff for the professional work that they do every day.  This week culminates with a wonderful staff luncheon on Friday.

Here are some simple ways you can show your appreciation:

Student/Parent written note: Write a letter or note to your current teachers (or a previous teacher) describing how the teacher has made a difference in your (or your student's) life.  It may sound simple, but teachers treasure personal notes from parents and students that reinforce their commitment to their profession.

Treat your Teacher: Bring in a treat for your teacher.  It could be a homemade baked good or some other special treat!

Restock the supplies:  The end of the school year is almost here and many teachers' supply closets are near empty!  Consider donating an item such as glue sticks, hand sanitizer, boxed tissues, disinfectant wipes, etc. for classroom use.

Please know that the suggestions above are simply suggestions.  It is your choice to take the time to thank your teacher or staff member and you also have the choice in how you would like to communicate your gratitude.

Lastly, thank you for attending our inaugural CPK night.  I had a wonderful time serving dinner to our kids and connecting with families.  It was a huge success!
