Principal’s Message:

Dear Parents,

I want to take a moment and review the morning arrival procedure here at Lanai.  The campus officially opens at 7:50am when students may proceed to the upper yard to complete laps.  When your child arrives at school, they should drop their backpack on the upper yard in their classroom line.  Students must remain on the upper yard until their teacher meets them and walks them to class.  Students and parents are not allowed in classrooms at this time.  The warning bell rings at 8:10am and all students are expected in line on the upper yard no later than 8:15am.  Students arriving after 8:15am should report to the office and will be marked tardy.

As a reminder, teachers are handling classroom responsibilities before and after school.  Please make an appointment with your child’s teacher if you would like a meeting.  Trying to “catch” a teacher before and after class results in the teacher being unprepared and your questions not being fully answered.  The same rules apply for volunteers on campus.  Please do not interrupt instruction time but, rather, make an appointment to meet with a teacher at a time that is mutually convenient for both of you.  Thank you for being respectful of everyone’s time.

On a different note, we are looking for parents to volunteer with our amazing recycling program and help take out recycling bins on Thursday mornings.  We could also use help bringing the bins back in on Friday mornings.  Student council takes responsibility for rolling the bins to the side gate.  Can you help?  Please email our Parent Director, Lisa Reeve, at if you can volunteer.

PTA's Reflections National Art Contest begins now! The theme is "Let Your Imagination Fly." Submit an original work in one of the following categories: Dance Choreography, Film Production, Literature, Music Composition, Photography or Visual Arts. Pick up your entry forms in the Family Center or the office. "Reflections Workshops" will be held in the Family Center Mondays 245-330pm Oct 19th, Oct 26th and Nov 2nd if you have questions or would like a space to work on your submission. Halloween Costume Drive update! - Thank you to all the families who have donated Halloween costumes so far! We have received almost 100 costumes of which the families of LA Family Housing will be able to use this weekend at their Harvest Festival. Please keep them coming!

PTA Membership Drive continues until October 23rd!  We would like each family to help us achieve our goal of staying #1 in the 31st district. We won the PTA poster contest for the first time at Lanai...stop by the front office and take a look at it!   Mr Lavenstein's class remains in the lead for the pizza party this week followed by Ms. Verdin in 2nd place and Ms. Ayola in 3rd! Membership is only $6.00!  There is no limit on PTA memberships. Grandparents, aunts, uncles and friends can all join!  Need a form?  Print one out from the Lanai website. Thank you for your support. Volunteer Badge Reminder - LAUSD requires all volunteers to sign in and wear a badge. This includes art docents, PE volunteers, etc.  If you need a badge, pick up a form in the front office or Parent Center and return it with a negative TB test result form from your doctor or clinic.  (The minute clinic at CVS in Sherman Oaks is an easy place to get a TB test!) Board Game Donations Needed! -  The rainy season is coming and that means plenty of indoor time!  If you have board games you are not using, think about giving them to the school. They will be used for PTA events and YS/SEEDS after school.  Please drop off games in the bin in the front office.  

Have you moved? LAUSD policy states you have 30 days to notify the office or forfeit your right to a continuing enrollment permit. Please bring your new address information to the office if you have moved.

Your voice counts!  Come share your voice in the process of hiring LAUSD's next Superintendent.  Community meeting to share your voice on the most important qualities for our school district's top leader.  All parents, students, teachers and community members are welcome.
