Lanai Weekly: Feb 2, 2015

Principal’s Message:

Dear Parents,

There are many events to look forward to during the month of February.  We have Shakespeare for 4th grade, play writing for 5th grade, an assembly by the L.A. Jazz Society, Kids World from Portola Middle School, Harvest of the month, Talent Show, Literacy Fair, Science Explosion Day, Character Assemblies on responsibility, and parent workshops to name a few.  We also can’t forget about Valentine’s Day.  In addition to the instruction taking place in classrooms, all of the scheduled events provide our students with a well-rounded educational experience.

Mr. Hansen

Thank you!  We are so excited about the show and all of the talented acts!  Tickets are $3.00, cash only and will be sold after school on the 5th and 6th as well as the day of the show.

Gala Donations Needed!! - This year's Beyond the Velvet Rope auction and gala will be held on March 14, 2015, at 6:00 p.m. at Sportsmen's Lodge in Studio City. As part of this fun and amazing event, both live and silent auctions are held.  We need the help of our Lanai Community to make the auction a success. Do you or someone you know work at AEG, Hollywood Bowl, the Forum or Pantages Theater and can donate tickets to the next hot show? Can you get front of the line passes to Universal Studios or tickets to Knott's Berry Farm? Do you have access to Kings, Lakers, Clippers, Dodgers or Angels tickets? How about a behind the scenes tour of a television show? A meet and greet with your celebrity friend? A private movie screening? A two night stay at your favorite hotel? Does your child take art, music, karate, or drama classes? You'll be surprised how many businesses will donate to a school ... All you have to do is ask! So next time you get a massage, go to yoga, grab dinner at your favorite restaurant, please ask if they would like to donate to our amazing school. Please go to to download the forms or email Michelle Siembieda at Thank you for your support of Lanai Elementary School!

Stuffed Animal Drive! - Team Lanai Cares will be holding their 5th Annual Stuffed Toy Drive from February 2 to February 13. Bring in your new or gently used (but clean!) stuffed toy and place it in one of the two bins near the office (please put each animal in a separate bag to keep it clean).  Donations will be forwarded to LA Family Housing and given to a child in time for Valentine's Day! Click here for flyer.

Grant Update - The Lanai Road Grants Committee would like to thank the Windsong Foundation for a generous grant of $20,000 to fund the installation of new classroom projectors.  New Epson wireless bluetooth projectors were installed in each and every classroom over the winter break.  This new technology will allow teachers to take lessons to a whole new level, and all our students will benefit from these state-of-the-art advances. We are very grateful for the Windsong Foundation's support for the installation costs. Thank you as well to every family who donated to FOLB's LoVE Fund; your support also made this project possible.

LAUSD Volunteer Fair - 8:30-12:30, Byrd Middle School, 8501 Arleta Ave, Sun Valley, CA  91352.  Workshops, Community Resources, Free TB Testing. Continental breakfast and child care will be provided. Click here for flyer.

Volunteer Badges are in - Please stop by the Parent Center to pick yours up!

LAUSD requires all parent volunteers to wear a volunteer badge while on school grounds.

Many of the volunteer badges have finally arrived! (but not all). If you submitted an application to volunteer at Lanai, please pick yours up at the Parent Center on the filing cabinet near the printer.  If you want to check to see if yours has come in, email Lisa at  If you need a badge, please pick up an application in the Parent Center or the Main Office.
