SBAC almost complete…check; Open House…check; Student Council elections…check; Incoming Kinder Play Date…check; Culmination planning…check; Classroom reorganization…in process!
This time of the year is super busy as teachers and students are putting the finishing touches on the current year and actively planning for the new school year, which includes classroom placement. I want to explain the process so you understand the complexity and depth that goes into how the new classes are formed. Initially we determine students who are English Language learners and they are placed first. Other considerations include students who are receiving Special Education services and those who are in our SAS (School for Advanced Studies) program and/or Gate (Gifted/Advanced) program. We also make certain classes are balanced in terms of academic achievement, behavior, and gender. All this is collaboratively with the current classroom teachers. Parent requests are always the lowest level of consideration after all other classifications have been determined. As a result, I ask that parents refrain from making requests. Your child’s teacher knows his/her strengths and challenges and are in the best position to determine appropriate placement in the coming year.
Wishing you and your family a wonderful Memorial Day Weekend and many thanks as we remember the men and women who have made the ultimate sacrifice while serving our country.
