Lanai Weekly: February 5 - 9, 2018

Principal’s Message:

Dear Parents,

Lanai’s got talent!  I hope you’re able to come to our annual talent show this Saturday at 11:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m. to see a great show!  A little bit of song, a little bit of dance and a lot of fun!  Many thanks to our parents who worked so hard to provide a wonderful experience for our students!

If you walked by the auditorium this week, you would have heard the the magical notes of jazz icon Duke Ellington on the piano, and the scat-tat-tat of vocal giant Ella Fitzgerald. Our music teacher Nicole Rivera, has been hard at work exploring the different musical genres which evolved from African American influence. Our students learned about the formation of “The Blues” in the Deep South to the “Jazz” ensembles of modern day musicians.  Music class is always a treat for our ears (and bodies!)

Traffic was an issue on several days this week and I would like to remind you that drivers may not use the church across the street or Garvin as a means to make a u-turn and enter the drop-off lane.  By doing that, you are putting yourself and others at risk.   Please plan on leaving 5 minutes earlier, or park and walk your children up to school.   In addition, as a reminder, there is no supervision at school until 7:30 a.m. Please do not drop your child off earlier.

Congratulations to our students who earned a Principal, Character, or Lunch with the Principal award at our assembly today!

Have a nice weekend,

Lisa Elan

MORNING DROP OFF LINE - The morning traffic line occasionally needs extra help. All you do is ask the crossing guard – “Do you need an extra volunteer?”.  This is also an excellent way to transition young kids toward independence by saying goodbye at the gate and then volunteering on the traffic line.   Thanks again for helping to keep our kids safe.

DIVERSITY VOLUNTEERS NEEDED! - We’re looking for a few awesome volunteers to help with Black History Month (February) and Cinco De Mayo (May) events.  Please contact Jody.chow@lanairoad.net for more information.

A THANK YOU TO ALL

A THANK YOU TO ALL - A big thank you to all of our Lanai students for making the holidays brighter for many hospitalized children this year!  Please see the attached thank you note we received from Cards for Hospitalized Kids to see the impact that the cards from your holiday banners made all over the U.S.  The  holiday banners were very impressive this year thanks to our talented kids and the Art Docent Teams that bring them to life.  A big thank you also to the room parents who helped with the display and take down process!
