Lanai Weekly: October 8 - 12, 2018

Principal’s Message:

Dear Parents,

We had unicorns and penguins this week when author Jesse Sima came and shared her books with our first and second graders!  During the presentation, she showed some of the illustrations that she drew as a child and talked about the things that inspired her. I know our budding authors loved seeing how books that Jesse read, motivated her to redraw some of the picture - something that all children do!

Our Character theme this month is “Respect”,  and student council put on a very clever skit with judges and respect vignettes. As well as being informative, the skit was super-funny as the four judges were none other than students playing Coach PJ, TA’s: Hannah and Isiah, and Principal Elan!  They were even wearing the proper hats! I know the entire school enjoyed the presentation and will show respect to their peers.

Just a reminder, that birthday parties are lots of fun and everyone loves to attend.  Invitations are not to be delivered at school unless every child in the class is invited.  Also, please remind your child not to discuss parties/events if not everyone was invited.

In addition, if you have a concern regarding how your child is doing academically or socially please contact his/her teacher.  They know your child well and can provide a lot of information as to how he/she is doing. It’s best to let the teacher know you need to meet them through an email or note.  Please know, that teachers are unable to discuss issues or concerns at morning line ups. If after discussing with the teacher, you feel the issue has not been resolved, then please contact me for further support.

Finally, a sad note, Floyd Meyers, a well-loved substitute who worked almost every week at Lanai for over 11 years has passed away. We send our heartfelt love to his family.

Wishing you a weekend of peace,

Lisa Elan
