Lanai Weekly: January 8 - 12, 2018

Principal’s Message:

Dear Lanai Families,

Our last week of school before Winter Vacation was filled with books, smiles, lovely holiday decorations and lots of music!  I’m sure you were able to attend one of our Winter Concert - what a treat!  Every grade sang two delightful holiday songs led by Nicole Rivera, our incredible music teacher and accompanied by Bill Haller, our chorus teacher.   The Thursday afternoon show had the added treat of a violin performance from our enrichment class led by Mary Schuler.  Also, I hope you had a chance to view all the beautiful cards displayed in the auditorium made by each student to be given to children in need.  Thank you Art Docents, for the incredible art you inspire in our students!  The Winter Concert is such a lovely way to begin the holidays!

On a safety note, if you pick up your child after 4:00 p.m. you may have noticed that our front gate is secured.  At that time, we have another Youth Services coach standing outside monitoring parents coming onto the campus to pick up their child(ren).  This person is provided by LAUSD and will be supporting our after-school pick-up, helping Coach Wendy on the playground, and watching the front gate from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m.  He also will contact SEEDs when parents come to pick up their children.  This measure was put in place because many parents voiced their concern about our campus being vulnerable in the afternoon.

Finally, as we say goodbye to 2017 and post good wishes for everyone in 2018, I hope you all have a wonderful holiday and wish you peace.

Warmly,

Lisa Elan

A HUGE THANK YOU FROM THE BOOK FAIR CHAIRS! The annual Lanai Book Fair was a great success despite the difficult circumstances we faced last week! Thanks to the support of our amazing Lanai community, we will receive close to $6000 for our library this year.  It's a testament to the Lanai families that we were able to fundraise so successfully in the face of so much chaos.  A heartfelt thank you to all of those who came and shopped, volunteered and otherwise supported the fair.

We especially want to thank Jody Chow and Mary Mirolla, who made Dads & Donuts happen with their Starbucks and donut pick ups, and all of those volunteers who stepped up on Monday and Tuesday to allow us to extend the Fair after our shortened week.  We truly wouldn't have been able to do it without you!  Please make sure to check out the Lanai Leader in January for a more detailed rundown of the Book Fair, including pictures and a shout out to all of our dedicated volunteers.
