This week our students celebrated Chinese New Year on Thursday and were treated to red lanterns, a Lion dance, yummy treats, and red envelopes (for good luck)! This is the year of the Rooster and those born in the year of the Rooster are believed to be hardworking, confident, courageous, loyal and enjoy being with others. A big thank you goes to all the parents who planned this spectacular multicultural day for our students! We also had our second Science Explosion this year and learned all about marine life and habitats and a special visit from Heal the Bay! We hope today’s experience will encourage your family to continue learning about our marine ecosystems and ways that we can help preserve and maintain the environment.
Thanks so much to those families who have completed their School Experience Survey! We use the data provided by all our stakeholders to continually improve our school. If you haven’t filled it out yet, you may do so online at http://www.surveygizmo.com/s3/3082140/School-Experience-Survey-Parents-2017-English If you take the survey online, please input the 10-digit parent code found on the top right corner of your parent letter, then print the “Thank you” form and have your child return it to school. Please be assured that your survey is confidential. We are hoping to have 100% participation.
The School Report Card for 2015/2016 is being sent home. In it you will see how Lanai Road Elementary School compares to the entire LAUSD in terms of: Proficiency in English Language Arts, Math, and Science; Graduation Rate; Attendance; School Safety; and Parent, Student and Community Engagement. It is going to the oldest child in each family. If you need another copy, please notify the office.
Finally, I hope to see many of you at our first annual community Encino 5K Run at Woodley Park. Though I will not be racing, I’ll be walking and enjoying the sunny (hopefully) morning with Lanai, Encino, and Hesby families.
