Lanai Weekly: September 5, 2016

Principal’s Message

Dear Parents,

It has been a wonderful first week here at Lanai! Your children are so lovely, curious, and kind; so many came up to me and introduced themselves at lunch and on the yard. I have visited all the classrooms and saw wonderful instruction and student engagement in writing, language arts, science and math. Tuesday and Wednesday Back to School Nights were a great opportunity to meet many of you and I look forward to seeing you at all the exciting events that are going on at Lanai beginning with CPK night on this Thursday.

Fondly,

Lisa Elan

LoVE FUND DRIVE CONTINUES! -  Thank you to all the families that have donated to FOLB annual giving drive called LoVE which stands for Lanai Values Education.  If you haven’t donated to LoVE yet, we will be in front of the school before and after school to accept your donations.  Your donations help pay for all the extra staff and enrichment which are no longer paid for by LAUSD, that we have at our great school because of your donations.  Checks and credit cards are gladly accepted, including installments.  We need everyone’s support so please show your love for Lanai.  For more info and to donate online, go to  http://www.lanairoad.net/pledge

THE  LANAI LEADER - Our Lanai community newsletter, the Lanai Leader, is published in print and online formats by Lanai parents five times a year in September, November, January, March and May. Leader articles provide detailed information about events at Lanai and feature interviews and thoughts from teachers, staff and students. If you have article ideas, comments or great photos, please contact us! We welcome your feedback and submissions, especially work by and about Lanai students! Kids love to see their writing published!  The theme for student submissions for the September issue of the Lanai Leader is "What I love about Lanai". Students are invited to write one sentence or more!  Contact Leader Editor, Sharon Benzvi, via email at sharonbenzvi7@gmail.com.  For Leader advertising opportunities, contact Katie Elinoff at katherinehalligan@gmail.com.

DO YOU STILL HAVE LAST YEARS BACKPACKS AND LUNCH BOXES...DONATE THEM!  There will be a donation box outside of the school office to collect gently used school bags and lunch boxes.  All donations will be used for a future Team Lanai Cares community project this coming school year.

SEEDS AFTER SCHOOL ENRICHMENT CLASSES - Enrollment is now exclusively online!  See the Lanai website for all the information on great after school classes.  Classes begin September 12th.

Have you moved? LAUSD policy states you have 30 days to notify the office or forfeit your right to a continuing enrollment permit. Please bring your new address information to the office if you have moved.
