Dear Parents,

Congratulations to Lanai's grant writing team!  Lanai was notified that we received an Educational Technology Grant from LAUSD.  We will have one-to-one Chromebooks for all 5th grade students next school year!  Thank you to parents Kathy Kantner, Amanda Gulsrud and 5th grade teacher, Mrs. Tew for writing the grant.

LAPS FOR LANAI LAST WEEK! - The Laps 4 Lanai student pledge drive is in full effect!  Students who collect at least $30 in pledges receive one “Laps 4 Lanai” t-shirt that they can wear on the days of the event. And, there’s some exciting incentives for the classes and individuals who raise the most money! The last day to hand in sponsor forms is FRIDAY, APRIL 8TH.

MIDDLE AND HIGH SCHOOL MATH ACCELERATION OVERVIEW MEETING FOR 5TH GRADE PARENTS AT PORTOLA: April 12, 6:30-8:00, Portola Middle School, 18720 Linnet Street, Tarzana, CA 91356.  Does your child have an aptitude and love of math?  Are you interested in accelerating in math beyond the traditional path?  If the answers to those questions are yes, then you must attend an information meeting for your child to be eligible to accelerate in 6th grade.  You must RSVP to attend.  Please RSVP by April 8th via email to Robbie Solomon at robin.solomon@lausd.net. If you cannot attend this meeting, you may attend an accelerated math overview meeting at the following schools:

April 14, 2016 - Sepulveda Middle School, 8:30 am - 9:30 am

April 26, 2016 - Columbus Middle School, 5:30 pm -6:30 pm

ISRAELI CULTURE DAY - Join us in celebrating Israeli Culture Day on April 14th! Festivities will include dancing, singing, Israeli food, Krav Maga, GaGa and lots more!  Parents are welcome to participate.  To make the celebration complete, kids are encouraged to wear a white shirt and blue pants/jeans.  Would you like to help plan the event?  We will be holding a meeting this coming Monday, April 4th at the Parent Center right after drop off.  If you cannot attend the meeting but would like to volunteer the day of, please email your contact information to Ronit Shapira at ronitomer@hotmail.com or Hadas Propper at hadasip@mac.com.

LOOKING FOR A GREAT WAY FOR YOUR STUDENT TO EXPRESS THEIR INNER ARTIST?- Enter Lanai’s Earth Day Recycled Art Contest!  All students are invited to enter! Student art will be displayed on April 22nd in Lanai’s Earth Day Museum.  Students may tour the museum on Friday the 22nd and vote for their favorite art.  Prizes will be awarded at morning assembly on Monday, April 25th. Here are the contest rules:

1. Students (not parents) must design and assemble the art.

2. Students may submit only one entry either as an individual or a group.

3. All art must be made from recyclable or re-purposed materials.  

4. Stitching, adhesives, pins, staples, etc. may be used in the creation of the art.

5. Materials used must not be dangerous (no glass, no sharp edges).

6. Art must be dropped off by 8:15a.m., in the Auditorium, Thursday, April 21st with a completed entry form

7. Art must be picked up by 3:00p.m., in the Auditorium, Friday, April 22nd or it will be recycled.

SEEDS AFTER SCHOOL ENRICHMENT IS OPEN FOR SUMMER! - Seeds Summer Camp and Summer bridge enrollment now available online now.  See the Lanai website for all the details!

Click on the Summer Bridge tab to see our line up of teachers. Seeds Summer Camp enrollment is located at the bottom of the Childcare tab. YES Enrichment will offer classes during the summer.  Some of  the offerings:

Theater Camp for grades 2nd through 5th

Basketball Camp for all ages

Art with Ms. Murray ages 2nd through 5th

LOST AND FOUND - It’s filling up again!  Please stop by and check for jackets, water bottles and lunch boxes.  It’s faster than another trip to Target for a new one!

Have you moved? LAUSD policy states you have 30 days to notify the office or forfeit your right to a continuing enrollment permit. Please bring your new address information to the office if you have moved.
