Principal’s Message:

Thank you to all of our students, parents and staff for coming early to school last week to participate in Lanai’s Fire Up Your Feet week. It was a great experience getting a little bit of exercise before starting the school day.  Please check the calendar on the Lanai website because we have many activities and events happening during the month of May.  We are starting off the month with PTA movie night on Saturday, May 2 and finishing the month with our annual 5th grade parent/child dance on Friday, May 29.  In between we will see everyone at Open House, field trips, concerts, Laps for Lanai and CPK.

Parenting without Panic! Parenting Workshop - Thursday, May 7th, 8:20 in the Parent Center.  Join us for an exciting and eye opening conversation about developing a better understanding of your child and learn new ways to communicate and set reasonable boundaries with your child without yelling and arguing. Please bring your questions as this workshop will be interactive.  Led by Kent Toussaint, M.A., LMFT, who specializes in helping kids, teen and their families live happier lives.  He is the Founder and Clinical Director of Teen Therapy Center in Woodland Hills.  

Lanai’s Orchestra Concert is on Tuesday, May 5th located across the street from school at Holy Spirit Center.  Orchestra students must arrive promptly at 4:15pm wearing black pants or shirt and white shirt with instrument and music sheets. The concert will begin at 6:00pm.  There will be no regular after school music lessons. Come hear our wonderful music students who have practiced so much for this event!  Parking available at Holy Spirit Retreat Center.

CPK Fundraiser Night is coming! - School is almost over so come join Principal Hansen at CPK Encino (corner of Woodley and Ventura) on Tuesday May 12 to help celebrate our amazing school year.  Principal Hansen will be sporting a chef coat and helping CPK from 5pm to 7:30pm.  Spread the word to friends and family.  CPK will donate 20% back to Lanai. We had a FANTASTIC turn out for Fire Up Your Feet this week! Thank you to all that participated. If you couldn't make it this week, please log your physical activity here - lanairoad.net/fire-up-your-feet - by May 5. We earn credit for each person who participates, but participants only count one time.

We need Pirate themed decorations!  Have you had a pirate party and have decor leftover?   We will need them for both May 29 & June 4, the last day of school.  If you want it returned, let us know, label it and pick it up from the upper yard after the 5th Graduation walk.  Do you have any of the following we can beg borrow or steal: Pirate ships, Treasure chests, Skeletons, Sparkly toy necklaces, Fake chainMesh,Thick rope, Gold coins, Pirate flags, Burlap, Netting, buckets ,Gold treasure, Pirate posters, Fake palm trees, Mermaids, Shells, Jewels, Silver treasure, Sand, Anchors, Wooden boxes and anything else you can think of!  Please contact Sara Dakarmen at saradakarmen@gmail.com to arrange drop off.  

We are looking for New Family Buddies for the 2015-2016 School Year! - Love Lanai? Want to help new families become acquainted to Lanai?  Then you would make a great New Family Buddy for next year! The program includes reaching out by calling and emailing your new family and welcoming them into our community before school starts and being available to them for any questions. The Spooktacular 2015 t-shirt design contest has begun!  Draw an original Halloween themed picture for a chance to be on the front of next year’s Spooktacular t-shirt!  Forms are available in the office and the Family Center.

LAUSD Peaceful Parenting Workshop - LAUSD’s Mental Health division is offering a workshop to all LAUSD parents.  Thursday, May 14, 5:30 at Daniel Pearl Magnet High School’s MPR.  The speaker will be Parent Educator, Ruth Beaglehole.  Any Questions?  Call School Mental Health at 818.758-2300.

LAUSD Workshop for IEP Families - “Navigating Through the IEP.”  A workshop to help parents learn more about the Individual Education Plan (IEP) guidelines and timelines. Topics include: academic goals, behavior support plan, the difference between disability and eligibility, and related services and assessments.  May 8th, 19th, and 26th, 9:00 am to 11:30 am.  May 8th, Emelita Elementary, May 19th, Lassen Elementary, May 26th, Madison Middle School.

Mark your calendar for the spring musical! - May 21 and 22 are performances for the spring musical called "Life After Lanai". Performances are at 6pm on the 21st and 7pm on the 22nd in the Dakarman Girls Auditorium. Please come out and support your fellow lanai classmates!! It's going to be AWESOME!!
