This is an exciting week for our 4th grade students as they are going on a field trip to the Catalina Island Marine Institute for three days. Our 4th graders have been talking about this trip since 3rd grade and are looking forward to the adventures they will have while learning about marine science and island ecology. For some students and parents this may be their first time away from home and they may be nervous. Based on my experience as a teacher taking 6th graders to Los Angeles County Outdoor Science Schools, any feeling of homesickness will dissipate quickly as students are immersed in activities and learning. While your children are away, know that they are well taken care of by Lanai staff as well as CIMI staff. Our 5th graders are also excited about their trip to Pali Camp in May.

During the week of April 27, each day one grade level will be encouraged to sign in and participate in morning laps. Anyone who lives with a Lanai student counts toward our goal! There will be a sign in sheet by classroom to capture all non-Lanai student participants. Even just one lap counts, however, participants can only be counted once during the entire week.
