Lanai Weekly: December 7, 2015

Principal’s Message:

Dear Parents,

My heart, thoughts and prayers go out to the families in San Bernardino.  I want to assure all parents that safety is our top priority at Lanai and all LAUSD schools. We practice monthly emergency drills and during the month of November we practiced our Lock-down drill.  We can close and secure the school in 30 seconds. Please be assured that we will take care of your children in any emergency.  As a reminder, we have many volunteers on campus daily.  Volunteers must sign in and out in the office and either wear their volunteer badge or yellow sticker badge while on campus.  I want to remind our volunteers that:  If you see something, say something.  Let us know in the office if you notice something out of ordinary while on campus or in the neighborhood coming to or leaving school. Safety is a priority for all of us.

Sincerely,

Mr. Hansen

Holiday Adopt-A-Family Project - Nov. 30 - Dec. 14  This holiday season each homeroom is sponsoring a local family in need by providing donations of holiday gifts. The holiday season can bring an increased burden to families that are already struggling and our Adopt-A-Family project helps connect those families with our own generous Lanai families.  This is a wonderful way for our school community to celebrate the holiday spirit with our neighbors. Information packages will be sent out in your child's backpack this week.

Orchestra Performance - On Tuesday, December 8th, Lanai String Orchestra Demonstration will be in the auditorium, rehearsals at 2:00pm-3:00pm and demonstration from 3:00pm-3:45pm.  The demonstration will include an overview of the orchestra program, instructional methods and student solo and group performances.  All Lanai students and families are welcome to attend!

Talent Show Rehearsal - Attention all kids in this year's Talent Show! Rehearsals will be in the Auditorium after school on either Thursday or Friday ( depending on which day you chose) this week and then will start up again beginning January 14th.  There will be no rehearsal the week of December 14th.  Parents... please check emails for weekly updates.  Thanks!!  It's gonna be a fun show! Anita & Trish

Gala and Auction Kick-Off Meeting: Are you interested in learning about the volunteer opportunities for the Gala and Auction? The Book Fair was a huge success! - Thank you to everyone who volunteered and shopped at the book fair.  A special thanks to Julie Weinstein for donating and picking up the donuts for Dads and Donuts morning and to Shani Amen for organizing the event!  We raised lots of money for our library!

Don’t forget to pick up your volunteer badge!!!  If you applied for a volunteer badge and haven’t yet picked it up, please stop by the Parent Center.  They are located on the cabinet against the back wall.

Have you moved? LAUSD policy states you have 30 days to notify the office or forfeit your right to a continuing enrollment permit. Please bring your new address information to the office if you have moved.

PLEASE CHECK THE LOST AND FOUND ALONG THE WALKWAY UP TO THE LIBRARY FOR JACKETS, SWEATERS AND LUNCH BOXES!
