Lanai Weekly: December 14, 2015

Principal’s Message:

Dear Parents,

Thank you for your help with our Team Lanai Cares Adopt-A-Family program.  Your thoughtfulness and generosity will touch many families this holiday season.  Also, thank you to the many volunteers preparing classroom banners for the holiday program.  You are invited to attend Lanai’s annual holiday program on Thursday at 8:45 a.m. and 1:00 p.m. and Friday at 8:45 a.m.  Our students have been working diligently with Ms. Rivera, Mr. Haller and their teachers to prepare for a wonderful program.  Each program is the same and we ask that you attend one as we have limited seating in our auditorium.  We look forward to seeing you there!

Sincerely,

Mr. Hansen

OTHER

Holiday Adopt-A-Family Project - Ends Monday!

This is a reminder that Monday will be the last day to bring in a gift for your class's Adopt-A-Family project. The charity that we are supporting, LA Family Housing, has seen a huge increase of homeless families asking for help this year - up to 50 families a month! If you haven't done so already, please take a look at your family's gift suggestion list, then go shopping and let your child pick something out. By working together, we can teach our children compassion and generosity towards our fellow man.

Mark your calendar for the third grade musical theater demonstration!   Monday, December 14.  Here is the schedule:

8:50 -   Mr. Lavenstein’s class

10:00 - Mrs. Fulford’s class

11:20 - Mrs. Motodani’s class

1:30 -   Ms. Miller’s class

Give a gift to Lanai! Get your tax-deduction in this calendar year by donating online at http://www.lanairoad.net/pledge/ or pay by check or credit card at our Holiday Concert LoVE booth on December 17 & 18. Your donations fund the staff, services and classroom materials that help make Lanai amazing. We need everyone’s support, please give today!  Click here for flyer

THANK YOU FRIENDS! On behalf of Friends of Lanai Booster, we’d like to extend our immense and sincerest thank you for the passion, talent and time our staff and parents give to help support our school and our fundraising efforts. A special FOLB thank you to the hard working and dedicated teams of fundraising committees and board members! Here’s to another great year at Lanai!

BRAVO Coders! Lanai students participated in the Hour of Code week, and had a blast doing it! Thank you Mr. Jung for your amazing technology instruction and programing. Parents, did you know--you can see Planet Bravo's weekly technology lessons anytime at  www.planetbravo.com/lrweek.

Mindful Parenting Class - Tuesday, January 12, 8:20, Parent Center.  Start the new year with some new parenting skills!!  This one hour class will provide parents with an introduction to the practice of Mindful Parenting. More often than not, we are on "automatic pilot," distracted by anxiety and preoccupied with the stressors in our lives. Mindfulness Parenting emphasizes acceptance, compassion, and living in the present moment as practices that help restore and strengthen the wellbeing of parents and their children, regardless of external conditions. No prior experience with mindfulness is required. Please RSVP to lisa.reeve@lanairoad.net Presented by the Pepperdine Community Counseling Center, Encino and the Pepperdine University Graduate School of Education and Psychology.

Don’t forget to pick up your volunteer badge!!!  If you applied for a volunteer badge and haven’t yet picked it up, please stop by the Parent Center.  They are located on the cabinet against the back wall.

Have you moved? LAUSD policy states you have 30 days to notify the office or forfeit your right to a continuing enrollment permit. Please bring your new address information to the office if you have moved.

PLEASE CHECK THE LOST AND FOUND ALONG THE WALKWAY UP TO THE LIBRARY FOR JACKETS, SWEATERS AND LUNCH BOXES!
