Principal’s Message:

Dear Parents,

I happy to share that Lanai is welcoming Mr. Agustin Muljawan as our new library aide.  LAUSD has paired up schools that will share library aides.  Lanai is paired with Hesby Oaks and Mr. Muljawan will start at Lanai on Monday, January 26.  We are excited to have him join Lanai and would like to thank all of our parent volunteers that have helped in the library.

Grandparents Game Day - Tuesday Jan 27, 1:40-3:40, Lunch tables.  Tell Grandparents to save the date to play fun games with their grandkids! Anyone is welcome, grandparents or not! Persian New Year Planning Committee  - Persian New Year is coming and I would like to set up a meeting to plan the event here at Lanai. Please email me at lisa.reeve@lanairoad.net if you would like to participate.

Chorale auditions are coming - Hooray! Lanai now offers FOUR  after school vocal music classes: 1st grade Cubs Choir, 2nd-5th grade Chorale, and 3rd-5th grade advanced  acappella & songwriting. EAC Parent Workshop - On Thursday, January 29th, join a discussion with Principal Erick Hansen and Portola Principal Stephanie McClay on “What does meaningful parent engagement look like in Elementary school compared to Middle School.” Also, help the LAUSD redesign the School Experience Survey and School Report Cards. Without the API, how should schools be rated? A LAUSD facilitator will lead a discussion to determine what information is important to parents.  Children are welcome. Talent Show Update - Talent show rehearsals this week -Thursday Jan 29th and 30th for all singers and dancers (unless previously notified). MC's will rehearse at 4:15 either Jan 29 or 30.  Ticket sale and bake sale info as well as which show you are in will be emailed out directly to parents.  All music must be in by Thursday, January 29th. Dress rehearsal is mandatory and will be on February 5th and/or 6th, depending on which show you are in.  We need parent volunteers!  Please email us if you can work a shift day of show. Thank you!  We are so excited about the show and all of the talented acts! The shows will be a at 11am and 3 pm on February 7th. Questions? Email Blythe and Joanne at lanaitalent2015@gmail.com. 

Gala Party Book - This year's annual gala, Beyond the Velvet Rope, is just around the corner. Are you interested in helping raise money for our great school?Hosting a party book is a great way to make a significant contribution, meet other families and have a great time while doing so. You can host a party on your own or grab a few friends. Wanna host a party but don’t what to do?  We can help, or let your creative juices flow and come up with your own idea. Parties can be for grown-ups or kids. Get in touch with Alisa Lippman at ajayebird@aol.com  to get a party book form or for answers to your questions.

Volunteer Badges are in - Please stop by the Parent Center to pick yours up!

LAUSD requires all parent volunteers to wear a volunteer badge while on school grounds. Many of the volunteer badges have finally arrived! (but not all). If you submitted an application to volunteer at Lanai, please pick yours up at the Parent Center on the filing cabinet near the printer.  If you want to check to see if yours has come in, email Lisa at lisa.reeve@lanairoad.net.  If you need a badge, please pick up an application in the Parent Center or the Main Office.

Stuffed Animal Drive! - Team Lanai Cares will be holding their 5th Annual Stuffed Toy Drive from February 2nd to February 13th. Bring in your new or gently used (but clean!) stuffed toy and place it in one of the two bins near the office.  Donations will be forwarded to LA Family Housing and given to a child in time for Valentine's Day!
