Lanai Newsletter: Week of September 29

Principal’s Message:

Thank you to all of our parents that observe traffic laws when dropping off and picking up students.  In the last two weeks we had LAPD and LAUSD School Police in front of school. Unfortunately, some of the members of our school community broke traffic laws and were cited.  Please be safe and observe traffic laws to ensure that everyone gets to and from school without incident.  LAPD and LAUSD School Police will be visiting us on a regular basis and will issue tickets and tow vehicles parked illegally.  Please give yourself extra time in the morning to get to school and go through the morning drop off line.  As a reminder, please:

  • DON'T PARK IN RED - this is reserved for safety vehicles only

  • DON'T MAKE 3 POINT OR ILLEGAL U TURNS ON LANAI RD

  • RESPECT OUR NEIGHBORS

The Lanai / Hayvenhurst crossing guard is coming, LAUSD has had staffing deficits and is hiring to secure our intersection.  Their resources have been going to higher traffic locations in the meantime.

We are all on the same team!  Let’s work together to ensure that morning drop off and dismissal times are safe and efficient.

OTHER

PTA - September is Attendance Awareness Month - Did you know that in overall schools one in ten students in kindergarten and first grade are chronically absent? We know school attendance is essential to academic success, but too often students, parents and schools don't realize how quickly absences — excused as well as unexcused — can add up to academic trouble.  Build a culture of good attendance at your house by helping your child understand how important it is to attend school each day. Set a goal to make sure your children get to school when school is in session.

LANAI’S WORLD FAMOUS HALLOWEEN SPOOKTACULAR will be happening on Sunday, October 19th from 11-4.  Bring friends and family and plan to stay all day! Exciting Attractions including High Striker, Treehouse Slide and Spooky Soaker Water Tag! Spooky Sports! Stage Fright activities! Creepy Crafts including Wax Hands, Sandy Candy and Glitter Tattoos! Fabulous Food and Treats! Ticket Order Forms were distributed to the students and will also be available in the main office and on the school website.

The gala and auction team needs YOU!  We are looking for dedicated and organized parent to be the Solicitation Coordinator. You will oversee the amazing group of parents that solicit donations and keep track of all the items that have been received. We have a database of all previous donors that you and your team will work from.  This is a fun and exciting way to get involved at Lanai!! Please email Michelle Siembieda at mashapley@yahoo.com if you are interested or have any questions.

Box Tops fall collection drive is coming up! This is an easy way to earn extra cash for our school. Start clipping Box Tops and turn in your collection to win prizes. Details in the attached Box Top Flyer and Box Top Collection Sheet
