Smarter Balanced Testing – continues this week 5/12: Room 17. 5/13: Rooms 17 & 22. 5/14: Rooms 22 & 15. 5/15: rooms 15 & 16. 5/16: Room 16.

Team Lanai Cares – Cans Across the Schoolyard – canned food drive contest – Stats/Thank You TLC congratulates Mrs. White's class for bringing in the most pounds of canned food per student for the 2nd Annual Cans Across the Schoolyard canned food drive. The class brought in 466 pounds, edging out Mrs. Colon's class by only 6 pounds. The third place class, Ms. Verdin, averaged 10 ½ pounds per student. This year Lanai donated 2,153.5 pounds to feed hungry kids in our community. That is equal to more than 1700 meals for a family a family of 4. (80 families will get 3 full meals a day for an entire week!) Way to go Lanai!

Citizenship Day – Wear Purple May 14 Our Character Counts program concludes with Citizenship on May 14. Everyone is invited to wear PURPLE. Be sure to ask your kids what they learned at the Character Assemblies!

Fitness Assembly – May 16 - There will be a K-2nd Grade Fitness Assembly, presented by McDonalds.

Harvest of the Month – May 16 This month's healthy food sample: Oranges. Thanks to Whole Foods for their continued support!

5th Graders & Families: Growth & Development Video – Student & Parent access On, Friday, May 16th at 1:30pm, an opportunity will be provided for all 5th graders to view a video entitled “Always Changing” and attend a lecture on growth and development. There will be separate viewings for the girls and boys. A preview of the film is available online for any parent/guardian. If you cannot access a computer, there will be a parent screening on Thursday, May 15 at 8:30 a.m. in the Family Center.

Open House – May 20th – 5:00pm – 7:00pm – NOTE EARLY START TIME - arrive early & have a bite, then tour the classrooms from 6-7PM!

Hawaiian Day – May 23 - Student Council encourages all students, teachers & staff to dress Hawaiian.

Volunteer Tea – May 27 Lanai Loves its Volunteers! If you have given your time to Lanai this year, please join us at 11:45am on May 27 for a special recognition event. Look for your invitation, coming soon!

Spring Concert - SCHEDULE CHANGE There will be two Spring Concert performances that will take place May 29th ONLY (1st-5th grade only). There will be NO performance May 28th. TK & Kindergarten will perform at their Summer Celebrations, which will take place the first week in June. Please see Lanai website for detailed information and schedule.

Spooktacular T-Shirt Contest – continues through June 2- Entry forms available online and school office.

Community News: Science Fair – Board District 3 – detailed flyer in online “News” Melrose Trading Post is adding more features to its Saturday Flea market at Taft High School, including a Kids Fun Zone, fresh produce and live music. If you mention “Lanai” at the entrance, your group gets in free. Thank you for your continued support of Taft Charter High School and your school community.
