Lanai Weekly  Dec 15-19, Week 18                                               

It has been a great start of the school year!  As we move into the holidays, I want to take a moment to thank all our wonderful parent volunteers. From the Blue Ribbon Celebration to art docent projects, multicultural day events, P.E. volunteers, Science Explosion days, to the amazing FOLB fundraising, numerous PTA events and the countless days parents spend in classrooms, we want you to know we appreciate all your efforts.  On behalf of the staff, I wish your family a relaxing and wonderful winter break.  Please travel safely and enjoy the time with family and friends.  

School resumes on Monday, January 12th.  See you in 2015!

Please bring in new, unwrapped toys or books to donate for the holidays.  Bins in front of school and library.

PTA Character Assembly, Respect, Wear Yellow! Join us on the upper yard after the 2nd bell for a school assembly (rain permitting).  Then all students will enjoy grade level assemblies throughout the day.  Happy Respectful Holidays!

Thursday, December 18

Holiday Concerts, 8:45-10:15 a.m., 1:00-2:30 p.m. All shows are the same, please choose one time, find a seat or standing room in the back. Please do not sit in the front of chairs or in the aisles.  The front rows are reserved seating.  Check out the class holiday banners!  Leave time for parking.

Friday, December 19

S.E.E.D.S. is offering child care during Winter Break - Monday, Jan. 5th-Friday, Jan.9th. 8:00-4:00, Grades TK-5.  Daily schedule includes science, arts & crafts, sports, games, free play on the big yard.  Snacks will be provided daily. Holiday Banners:  Be sure to take a good look at the beautiful banners that will be on display during our holiday performances!  The banners will consist of holiday cards made by our students! A portion of the cards will be distributed to the Cedars-Sinai Children's Ward, while the rest will be going to "Cards for Hospitalized Kids."   CFHK is an internationally recognized charitable organization that spreads hope, joy & magic to hospitalized kids across America through uplifting, handmade cards.  By joining with them, our children will help brighten the days of many hospitalized kids!

Chorale auditions are coming! Love to Sing? Want to join the Lanai Chorale for their Spring program? Audition applications (grades 2-5) must be placed online by Wednesday, Jan. 21st at.  Auditions held Jan. 28 after school. Program days, times and details online. Volunteer Badges are in! Many of the volunteer badges have finally arrived! (but not all). Please pick yours up at the Parent Center on the filing cabinet near the printer.  If you want to check to see if yours has come in, email Lisa at lisa.reeve@lanairoad.net.

LoVE Drive Reminder: As the year draws to a close and you plan your tax-beneficial year-end giving, please remember your LoVE for Lanai! You can do two good deeds at once... help our school, and lower your tax bill!! (FOLB is a 501(c)(3) non-profit). A donation of ANY AMOUNT helps our school. Lanai Students/TK-5: The Lanai Leader wants YOU! The theme for student submissions for the January 2015 issue is WINTER IN CALIFORNIA. What are you doing this winter?  What does winter look like to you? We’d like to know.  It can be one sentence or more, and related poetry, photos and artwork are also welcome.  The DEADLINE FOR SUBMISSIONS is Dec. 19th.  Please send them to Lanai Leader Editor Jill Dickerson at jill.dickerson@me.com or Ali Perdigao at alisonperdigao@sbcglobal.net.

Covered California: LAUSD is partnering with Healthy Start to provide LAUSD families with understandable, engaging health insurance information which leads to health insurance coverage for all.  They have provided a Covered California DVD presentation for parents and community members that is available in the Parent Center.  If you are interested in viewing the DVD, please contact Lisa Reeve, Parent Center Director, at Lisa.Reeve@Lanairoad.net.
